I’m a massive Doctor Who fan. It’s a much-loved treasure dating back to when I was little. Because of this, the announcement of a new Doctor is always an exciting thing. Who will it be and who will the Doctor become, because it’s not just about the actor they select, it’s about the quality of writing, the humour and the story arcs that twist and turn and make you gasp when you realised everything is connected.

Since Peter Capaldi’s announcement he was saying “Tarra” to the iconic role, there’s been much speculation about who his Doctor would regenerate into, and considerable debate as to whether we would see the first female Doctor. “But the Doctor is male, he’s always been male,” I hear you cry. All of this is true, but does it mean it always has to be true? Can we not push the boundaries? It could be fun after all.

With this afternoon’s reveal, the waiting is over. #DoctorWho13 is Jodie Whittaker. I’ve no idea what she’ll be like, but as a good friend said, “I don’t think a character who regenerates should be stuck as just one thing.” I couldn’t agree more.
